The Narcissus: If a person is so into themselves that they talk about nothing else, and act as if they don’t hear others, then there’s no point to talking with them. At the same time, I will never get peeps who say narcissism (in general) is a turnoff. For me, it’s the opposite. If a person’s not all roo-roo and rah-rah about themselves, then it’s not worth the time wasted on being a person’s cheerleader. Besides, I prefer criticism over compliments, and I look for the same in others. Sure enough, most of my tribe now consists of narcissists… the way God intended.
Full disclosure: Just before posting this, I was reading a book I wrote while listening to music I made. There’s something to be said about a certain measure of pride and joy taken from a healthy dose of narcissism when fortified by creative action.
Note: Every once in a while, I am reminded that there are people in this world who do NOT like other people IF those other people love themselves. To these people, loving yourself is a bad thing. And every time I am reminded of this, the words of Maya Angelou immediately come to mind: “I do not trust people who don’t love themselves and yet tell me, ‘I love you.’ There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.”
Love BIG!!! F.L.Y. = First, Love Yourself! The more love you have inside you, and the more love you have for yourself, the more love you have inside of you to give to others.
